Café Gaúcho is one of those places that wins you over with its simplicity and the care it takes in welcoming you. The atmosphere is straightforward and unpretentious, with that authentic, down-to-earth service that makes you feel at home. The food is the highlight: flavorful, plentiful, and with a seasoning that perfectly evokes the famous "comida de chama" (traditional food), full of nostalgic memories. A traditional place worth a visit, especially for those who appreciate good food made with care and tradition.

I've been a regular at Café Gaúcho for years, and I'm passionate about it, but only now have I decided to talk about my favorite spot in the city center. A classic, authentic bar, with a democratic and welcoming atmosphere. If I told you who I'd had a beer with there, you wouldn't believe it. Or maybe you would. There's no seating; you have to stand at the counter or at the small tables outside. And that's not a bad thing, quite the opposite. The house specialty is the meatball. Unmissable. My basic combo there is a draft beer, a meatball, and a sandwich, which can be the hot dog (always with sauce) or the pork leg sandwich, both duly topped with melted provolone cheese. And what's more, if you go there on a Friday? Order a portion of gizzards. My mouth waters just thinking about it. If you go to the counter in the evening and are served by Marcelo, tell him that the guy from the couple at table 1 sends his regards. Draft beer, Luiz! (Trivia: Cândido Portinari was a regular at Café Gaúcho. In other words, we're in very good company in this story.)

I go to Café Gaúcho almost every day after work. A traditional bar/pub in downtown Rio, it serves savory snacks, sandwiches, coffee, and perfectly poured draft beer. The staff are excellent too. The pork sandwich, the sausage sandwich (the house specialty), and the "malandrinho" (a type of small, savory pastry) have become my regular favorites.

A spectacular spot to embrace old Rio charm. A choppe and a sandwich, standing at the bar, chatting with regulars and just watching the world go by. This is how pubs were meant to be.

We visited this place a couple of times when we were in Rio de Janeiro. The place is always busy but again they serve with joy. Great choices to have some quick bites with some cold beer. There are more filling options too. During our visits we tasted carne assada sandwich (you can’t get enough of this, so delicious), coxinha, bacalhau, salsicha (so good with beer), Caju juice (the first time I tasted here, interesting but good taste). It has been more than a month since our travel to Rio, I miss this cafe, I really wish I could have them in my city and visit for tasty food after work.
